Food Storage
Two Week Food and Water Supply
This is a reminder that our 2024 goal for emergency preparedness is to secure a year supply of food and at least two weeks worth of water for every member of your family. If you don't yet have at least a two week supply of food and water, please accept the challenge to do so this week. In our last Stake Preparedness meeting we discussed what constituted a two week supply and came up with the suggestions below. This information will help you figure out how much you will need. We did our calculations based upon a family of four. Use your calculator to make the changes you need to personalize these numbers for your family size.
Two Week Supply of Food and Water for 4 people
1. Plan for 28 meals. In a true emergency we could survive on two meals per day.
2. Store at least one gallon of water per person per day for a total of 56 gallons (a 55 gallon drum plus one extra gallon). This is the most urgent storage item your family needs to acquire.
3. Nothing in the list of meals below needs refrigeration for storage. As usual, water will be needed for some items when cooking.
4. The specific food items are suggestions and can be replaced by what your family eats.
5. Take the list of food items below to a grocery store and you will have two weeks of food for your family.
